The Asia Pacific Society for Agricultural and Food Ethics (APSAFE) is very pleased to announce the dates and theme of the fourth international conference (visit the conference website). We cordially welcome researchers, students, policy makers, community activists, practitioners, and anyone with an interest in the topics. This conference will be a great opportunity to expand your transdisciplinary network and deepen your understanding about a range of interesting research, approaches and initiatives, so join us.
The theme of this conference is “Supporting Sustainable Food Systems: Quality Food and Ethical Consumption”. It is a necessary step forward to rethink and reconstruct approaches to agriculture and food production if we hope to make food systems more sustainable. New technologies in aquaculture, livestock production, and food processing surely present possible opportunities, but these approaches also raise a wide range of ethical questions. This conference will explore the ethical dimensions of quality food consumption and production, and examine possible food futures that may help the society address the numerous wicked problems present in our current food system.
We are calling for short papers to be discussed in the conference. This conference will be the first ever entirely virtual meeting of APSAFE, which will continue for a duration of two weeks. To foster mutual learning and generate new insights for a sustainable future, a non-real time format will be implemented that utilizes a business chat (Slack) and YouTube. You can participate in the discussion at any time you would like, without problems about time difference or data traffic.
The conference will address a number of subthemes including:
– Human-Animal Relationships
– Linking Social and Ecological Systems
– Food Sovereignty
– Civic Food Networks
– Food Policy and Governance
– Foresight Methods
– Circular Economy
– Food Law
– Sustainability Transition
– Veterinary Ethics
– Social Practice
– Food Futures
All of these topics raise a question of value dilemmas that this conference aims to make more explicit.
The International Scientific Committee will review the submitted short papers. Papers will be selected based on content, available space, and overall program balance. Selected authors will be then invited to submit a full paper to the journal “Food Ethics” published by Springer. All journal submission will be subject to full journal peer review.
Short papers must be received by
30 June 2020 15 August 2020. A template for submissions can be downloaded from the website. If you are unable to meet the deadline due to disruptions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, please contact the APSAFE2020 Secretariat (apsafe2020[a]gmail.com: change [a] to @).
We look forward to receiving your submissions and participation in the APSAFE2020!
