Kameoka Organic Action, an organization for citizens to explore, think and act together about the future of food and agriculture in Kameoka City, Kyoto, will be launched on March 18th, 2021.
Working Group 2 of the FEAST has been conducting research on transition toward a sustainable future of food and agriculture in Kameoka City. Conducting a survey with Kameoka citizens, a survey about food preparation targeting the child-rearing generation, and a citizens’ visioning workshop has led to an event “Kameoka Nou Marche” together with organic farmers in Kameoka City and the Kameoka Kiri Art Cultivation.
The event was organized “to make Kameoka an organic farming town”. In the process of preparing for the event, the FEAST Project met and collaborated with many stakeholders and actors in the food and agriculture industry in Kameoka City, which has developed into Kameoka Organic Action. Mr. Hiroichiro Ooe and Mr. Mitsuhiro Katamoto, Kameoka farmers, will be the co-chairs of this organization along with Prof. Motoki Akitsu of Kyoto University, a FEAST member. Although the research period of the FEAST Project at the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature will end in March 2021, we expect that the activities in Kameoka City that we started will continue with the Kameoka Organic Action Project. We cannot be excited enough to see how this transdisciplinary process has developed thus far and will evolve, which is what RIHN has been working on.
Kameoka Organic Action will hold its inaugural meeting on March 18 at the conference room of Sanga Stadium located in front of Kameoka Station. We are looking forward to the participation of anyone who is interested in the future of food and agriculture in Kameoka: those are interested in organic farming, those who are looking to experience growing vegetables, those who want to buy organic vegetables locally produced easily, those who are interested in living creatures in the rice fields, and those who are interested in organic school lunches.
